ONGOING FUNDRAISING:

SPA (SAFE PLACE FOR ANIMALS) SHELTER:Thrift Store (proceeds support the sheltering and adoption center) is open Sun - 12 noon to 4pm; Mon-Sat 9am to 4pm. Donations gladly accepted. 1070 Old Hwy 109 North, Gallatin. Tel # 451-7342.

PET EMERGENCY FOOD BANKS: The Humane Society of Sumner County (16 Volunteer Dr, H'ville), Hairy Moose Pet Retreat (123 Big Station Camp Blvd, Gallatin) and the Safe Place For Animals (1070 Old Hwy 109 N, Gallatin) shelters maintains emergency food banks for those needing assistance in feeding their pets. Donations to restock supplies (dog/cat food, cat litter) is always appreciated!! .

SSNA "COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE FUND": Provides financial assistance to those who qualify to subsidize spay neutering cost for their pets. Any donations accepted by SumnerCountyAnimals.com at events go directly to this fund to help reduce our excess animal populations. Donations may be made via Pay Pal by visiting the SSNA website, Sumner Spay Neuter Alliance.org. For more information, call the clinic at 452-2233

6th ANNUAL "PEDAL FOR PAWS" BIKE RIDE: Save the date, April 9th ... the largest fundraiser by our SSNA S/N clinic with over 400 cyclists expected to participate. 14/30/42 & 60 mile rides through the beautiful Sumner County countryside

“PUTTIN’ ON THE DOG/CAT GALA”: Mark your calendars ….. The Humane Society of Sumner County’s 12th annual gala is scheduled for Nov 14th at the Blue Grass Country Club. Tickets will be $50 pp. Become a ‘Table Top Sponsor’ for $150 (includes 1 free ticket) …. For more info contact Elaine O’Day at 615-579-9862. This is HSSC’s largest fund raiser of the year and is always a great event!!

"OFF THE CHAIN" MOTORCYCLE RUN: March 28th. Great opportunity to dust off the cycle and enjoy a day out riding in support of a great cause ... supporting one of our fine animal groups, Habitat for Paws. For entrant info, [email protected]

"PEDAL FOR PAWS": April 11 in Gallatin. For the cycling enthusiast you have a choice of 14, 30, 45 or 62 mile bike routes to choose from. Over 400 cyclists anticipated to participate in this great event to support our spay/neuter clinic. For more info, visit the SSNA website or FB page,

FREEDOM FARM'S "PET CELEBRATION": Sat, Oct 4th, 10a-3p, Moss Wright Park in Goodlettsville. Live music, pets available for adoption, food & drink, vendors, pet contests, photos, bake sale & much more. Bring your pet for an enjoyable time with other pet lovers & support our Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary, one of our leading animal groups in Sumner County!!

 HUMANE SOCIETY'S "PUTTIN' ON THE DOG GALA": Save the date ... November 1st. This year the event will be held at the Blue Grass Country Club in Hendersonville ... always a good time for a great cause!!

BAREFOOT CHARLIE'S "YAPPY HOUR": 1-4pm the first Sunday of each month, Barefoot Charlie's restaurant will be hosting a 'Yappy Hour' for you dogs with treats and a bowl of fresh water. 125 Sanders Ferry Rd in H'ville. Please enter the patio area from the rear of the restaurant. (note that pets are welcome anytime in the outside patio seating area).

HUMANE SOCIETY 'GARAGE/YARD SALE': Fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, May 10th at the Humane Society Adoption Center, 16 Volunteer Drive in Hendersonville.

 HENDERSONVILLE DOG PARK RIBBON CUTTING: Wednesday, March 5, 1pm. Join us for the official ribbon cutting/opening of the new Hendersonville Dog Park, located behind the tennis courts in the Memorial Park. Kudos to the Hendersonville Lions Club for all their fund raising activities to pay for the materials, including everyone who donated or purchased a commemorative brick or paver and other equipment/materials. Also to the City of Hendersonville for the construction and use of the property for the park.

HUMANE SOCIETY's "DINING FOR DOGS": Enjoy an evening out with dinner at the Avanti Gourmet Restaurant and help support the Humane Society Adoption Center. 711 E. main St in Hendersonville, 4pm-8pm.

 HUMANE SOCIETY'S ANNUAL "GALA": Saturday, November 9th, 6pm-9pm at the Kennesaw Farms clubhouse. $35 pp, available at http://www.sumnerhumane.org/ or by calling 394-8903. Emcee will be Scott Couch (Fox 17), with a silent auction, heavy hors d' oeuvres by Movable Feast, door prizes, musical entertainment and announcement of the Humane Society's 2014 Calendar winners and their 'Volunteer of the Year' award. This is always a 'fun night out' and a great fundraiser for our furry friends.

FREEDOM FARM's "WINE FOR WHISKERS": Saturday, November 9th, 6:30-8:30pm, at the DoubleTree Hotel, 315 4th Ave North, Nashville. A night of fun & casual wine tasting, cheese pairings, live music & silent auction ... all proceeds benefit the animals taken in by Freedom Farm Sanctuary. $35 pp, $60 pair, $15 for sober drivers.  FREEDOM FARM'S 'Adoptathon': Saturday, Sept 14th at the Petsmart in Rivergate. pets for adoption, pet related vendors, more info as it becomes available but mark your calendars to support this great group!! Fri: 11am-4pm; Sat: 10am-4pm; Sun 12-4pm. Cats for adoption all three days, dogs only on Saturday.

AVANTI/LIONS CLUB HENDERSONVILLE DOG PARK BENEFIT: Sept 17th, 10:30am - 8:30pm at the Avanti Gourmet restaurant, 711 E. Main St in Hendersonville. Benefiting the Lions Club Dog Park Fund, to build a new dog park in Hendersonville. Lions Club President Steve Brown reports that fund raising for the project has been going well with about $13,000 raised towards the total estimated cost of $20,000. A portion of the food sales will be donated by Avanti as well as sales of drawing tickets to win fantastic drawing prizes ... winners need not be present to win and tickets can be purchased the day prior and day of event at Avanti and also at the door the night of the event. Commemorative bricks and pavers will also be for sale ... what a great way to honor or in memory of your loved ones, either two or four legged. And of course, any donations are always welcome and appreciated!!

HUMANE SOCIETY'S YARD SALE: Fri Sept 20 (8am-4pm) and Sat Sept 21 (8am-2pm), 103 Dorris Dr in Hendersonville. Lots of treasures to support their adoption center. If you have items to donate, please call 498-3648

SPA CAT ADOPTION SPECIAL: Tis the cat season and we have an abundance of cats in our shelters. The Safe Place For Animals (SPA) shelter in Gallatin is currently waiving all adoption fees for any cat over 2 yrs old. All cats have been spay/neutered, up to date on all vaccinations and have been Vet checked. For more information, call SPA at 451-7342.

SSNA's "PRIMP YOUR PIT" S/N SPECIAL:  The SSNA clinic is currently taking appointments for their "Primp Your Pit" special which will run the month of August (need to make an apt now as they are usually booked 2-3 weeks in advance). For Pit Bull or Pit mixes, for the measly sum of $20, they will spay or neuter, trim the nails and give a rabies shot. This special is made possible through a grant by PetSmart Charities. Call the clinic on 452-2233 to book an appointment (open to all dogs regardless of residency).

HABITAT FOR PAWS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS: The Habitat For paws group, who builds fence enclosures for chained dogs, is looking for volunteers to help with their next project on Saturday, July 20th, 9:30am for a couple of hours, in Gallatin. "YAPPY HOUR" LIONS CLUB FUNDRAISER: A great turnout for the event held at Barefoot Charlies. The lions Club has raised approximately $11,500 towards the building of a new dog park in Hendersonville. "Annabelle" (shown with her 'mom owner') took 1st place for Best Dressed".  Our own Lulu took 1st place for "Best Trick". 'Kudos' to Steve brown and the rest of the Lions Club members for their efforts. Fund raising is still going on ... contact the Hendersonville Lions Club for more info: [email protected].

 PITTIEFEST 2013 IN H'VILLE: A great turnout with lots of 2-legged and 4-legged attendees ... always great to see lots of support for our animals. Good music, lots of vendors and good weather.....

SATURDAY, JUNE 22nd: "Day For The Animals" Another successful event, thanks to the volunteers (Nicki, Kathy, Lee, Chris, Debbie, Patti, Brenda, Gayle, Dawn & Donna, Anjolie, Sandra & the HSSC crew); to the Kroger staff, specifically Asst Mgr Brittany (pictured) who did an excellent job of promoting the event, and to the Kroger customers who generously donated about 3 truck loads of supplies. This was the 4th supplies donation drive held at the Kroger Marketplace and it is always great to see such support for our animal groups ... some customers (such as Paula) who donate a full cart of supplies!). Animals were available for adoption by the Humane Society and also by Feral Care who adopted out two kittens. The SSNA S/N clinic had an informational table set up in the atrium to promote spay/neutering. Southern Paws Pet Sitting had an informational table set up (10% of all pet sitting fees are donated to the SSNA "Community Assistance Fund") as did the  Safe Place for Animals shelter/rescue.
